Sabancı University is committed to achieving the Net Zero Campus target by 2050 as part of its Climate Action strategy.
Emission Reduction Strategy

Taking concrete steps is crucial to develop effective and lasting solutions in the fight against climate change. At Sabancı University, we are taking actions across the campus to reduce our carbon emissions and, accordingly, we are developing projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency.
Energy Management and Renewable Energy

To achieve our emission reduction targets, we prioritize making our campus energy management more efficient and carbon reduction a key goal. In this regard, we analyze our current situation, evaluate our energy consumption, and define strategic actions.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory

Our greenhouse gas emissions from operations are calculated and measured through verification by an independent auditor. Emission calculations are conducted in accordance with ISO 14064 and the GHG Protocol, covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 levels.
Scope 1: Direct emissions
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions such as those from the supply chain, transportation, and waste management
- A 1,100 kWe capacity solar power plant (SPP) has been installed as part of renewable energy projects.
- Indirect emissions from electricity have been eliminated through 100% renewable energy procurement.
- Emission reporting and verification processes are being conducted.
- LED lighting has been fully implemented in all offices and classrooms.
- Motion sensors and energy-saving systems are being activated.
- Electric vehicle charging stations are being expanded.
- Automation projects are being applied in heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
- Heat loss is prevented through insulation work on the facilities.
- Boiler systems have been modernized to increase efficiency.
- Energy-efficient products are preferred in procurement processes.
2030 Targets and Planned Strategic Actions
- Primary emission sources will be analyzed.
- Carbon pricing mechanisms will be evaluated.
- Floating solar power plants and vertical solar systems will be installed.
- Burner air-fuel ratio optimization will be implemented in boiler systems.
- Economizer applications will be introduced in heating systems.
- Losses in climate control systems will be eliminated.
- Transformer coupling applications and insulation of pipelines will be improved.
2050 Targets and Planned Strategic Actions
- Heat pumps, next-generation chiller systems, and alternative refrigerants will be utilized.
- Electrification of furnaces/boilers will reduce fossil fuel consumption.
- The university’s energy infrastructure will be transformed into fully integrated low-carbon systems.
- Carbon offset projects will be implemented to contribute to the 2050 goal.
In line with our international commitments,
we have formalized our 2050 net-zero emissions target
by the “Race to Zero for Universities and Colleges” initiative.
